Derk Derksen from Boschkop writes:
Dr Wynne indeed stayed on the property that is now Waterlake Farm. We moved out when I was still writing my last matric papers in December 1972. Dr Wynne was the owner.

When I returned from my army stint, the property had been bought by Theuns Bester. He flattened the Cape gabled house of dr Wynne as well as many bluegum trees. The dairy, as it is today, is pretty much the same as dr Wynne had left it.

There are a few graves with no head stones next to the main road and my property, plot 86. A couple hundred yards down the fence is one grave inside Waterlake: “Hier rus ons moeder Ella Dorethea Riekert Pherreira, gebore 3 Augustus 1869, oorlede 24 Junie”

Last month Topsy Eschenburg asked if anybody knew anything about the old Cloonavinden Dairy farm on the Boschkop Road and dr Owen Wynne, who died in a car accident many years ago. We forwarded Derk’s letter to Topsy – Ed

Topsy Eschenburg from Zwavelpoort answers:
Thanks so much for putting me in touch with Derk. I spoke to him today and he had so much info for me.

My reason for wanting to know about the Wynne farm is that Dr Wynne’s daughter is a great friend of mine, but at nearly ninety years old she remembers only that the farm is on the Boschkop Road “about twenty miles from Pretoria”.

I was at her wedding on the farm in 1961, but of course couldn’t remember exactly where. I just had a gut feeling when I went to Waterlake one day. Many thanks and best regards.
