I know Willow Quarries advertise in
this magazine. Let’s see if this letter
is published. It will say a lot about
the publication and the integrity of
its editor.
Every day I drive past the quarry in
Lynnwood Road, I am almost in an
accident. The road at the entrance is
covered with loose stones, potholes
and debris and swerving out of the
way is your only option.
Unfortunately there is always a
truck on the other side of the road
wanting to turn into that road and
swerving could result in a deadly
head-on collision.
Your only alternative is to go
through the potholes and possibly
write off your car wheels.
This has happened a number of
times to me where I narrowly avoided
an accident and on two occasions
damaged my car wheel. I just
had to repair my wheel for R2 900.
Another problem is the trucks leaving
the quarry and the stones falling
from the trucks. In the past three
years I have had to replace three
windscreens due to falling stones.
Will anything ever be done to force
Willow Quarries to take responsibility
for the damages they cause? I
have tried to get them to pay up,
but they know it will be impossible
for me to prove that they are the
responsible party and therefore
they don’t care.
Something will probably only be
done if someone died at that intersection.
I sincerely hope it’s not me
or one of my family.
I think this behaviour is scandalous.
Never mind the environmental
issues that have been reported on
many times in the past. Willow
Quarries are single-handedly
destroying our Bronberg and still
they continue unabated.
I would like to ask people who have
suffered damages due to the
actions of Willow Quarries to contact
me by e-mail so that we can
develop a plan to bring them to
book. Write to Marthinus at
