There are more suspicious persons on Zwavelpoort’s roads than ever before and it seems as if crime was escalating during the first week in February. This is the opinion of patrolling members of the Zwavelpoort Residents Association (ZRA).

Late last year the property owners of Zwavelpoort came together to establish the ZRA, partly to protect their legal rights. This was in reaction to Kungwini’s plans, now reportedly abandoned, to establish a major squatter camp in Zwavelpoort. ZRA is an Association Incorporated Under Section 21 Company (Registration Number: 2007/022438/08).

Since its inception the ZRA has started organising patrols in Zwavelpoort. This extra vigilance and community back-up has already resulted in success. On the night of 7 February, for example, ZRA members within minutes responded to a call for help and an intruder fled without managing to break in.

Residents who would like to participate in the patrols can call ZRA secretary, Petro Anderson, at 083 604 0074.
